TAKING YOUR PETS
No need to leave your furry friends behind – they can come on holiday too if you travel with us.
It costs £17 per pet each way to travel on the Hull to Rotterdam route, with registered Guide and Hearing Dogs travelling free of charge.
Dogs, cats or other small animals are allowed on our ships with pet passports, as long as they meet all the EU requirements. The latest information on the pet passport scheme can be found on the DEFRA website.
All cats and dogs must be put in our air-conditioned onboard kennels during the trip. The kennels are separated and designed so each pet can’t see each other.
We check the kennels every two hours, but should you wish to visit you pet, you can do so if accompanied by P&O staff. Just ask at the onboard reception.
Below we’ve put together a few tips on how to make the journey as comfortable and hassle-free as possible for you and your pet.

THINGS TO KNOW
- Passengers with pets need to check-in at least 90 minutes before departure. You will be asked to fill in a pet manifest.
- All cats and dogs must be put into our onboard kennels. Our staff regularly checks pets in the kennels during the crossing.
- With the exception of registered Guide and Hearing Dogs, foot/coach passengers can’t travel with pets.
- Passengers with pets cannot be given Priority Boarding as your car will be parked near the kennels.

-
VACCINATIONS
Make sure your pet has been microchipped and vaccinated against rabies 21 days before you travel. Some countries also need your dog to have had tapeworm treatment, which is recorded in their pet passport. Check www.gov.co.uk
-
PET PASSPORTS
All dogs, cats and ferrets must have a pet passport (or third country official veterinary certificate) to enter or re-enter the UK. Your vet can give you a pet passport.
-
FEED AND WATER
Feed your pet at least a few hours before boarding ̶ do it later and they may get travel sick. You can place food and water in the onboard kennels to cover the crossing. Always allow time for your pet to go to the toilet before boarding.
-
EXERCISE AND PLAY
Give your pet plenty of exercise before they travel - they’re likely to be less restless before they come on board. It’s also a good idea to leave them some toys to amuse them during the voyage.
-
COOL AND CALM
Our onboard kennels are air-conditioned so your pet won’t get too hot. As they’re more likely to sleep if they have familiar bedding, consider leaving some in their kennel with them.
-
PLAN AHEAD
If your pet isn’t used to long journeys, take them in the car a few times before the crossing. As Hull to Rotterdam it’s a night crossing many pets find it easier to sleep.
