Key things to remember when travelling by car:
  • Cars must be declared accurately when booking, including make, model, and size. Don’t forget to include roof boxes, bike racks, or trailers.

  • For international routes such as Dover–Calais and Hull–Rotterdam, please arrive at least 90 minutes before departure. For Cairnryan–Larne, check-in closes 30 minutes prior to sailing.

  • After check-in, our team will direct you to board the ferry and park safely.

  • Once parked, take valuables with you as all passengers must leave vehicles during the crossing.

Driving off the ship is just as easy, letting you continue your journey smoothly, whether you’re travelling around France by car, or taking a scenic road trip through Ireland or Scotland.

Travelling with a Caravan or Motorhome

A ferry crossing with a caravan or motorhome is one of the most popular ways to start a holiday with all your home comforts. Whether you’re planning a motorhome trip to France, exploring the Netherlands, or discovering Northern Ireland’s scenic routes, P&O Ferries makes it easy.

Motorhome & Caravan Travel Tips

Accessibility FAQ's

1 What is accessible travel?
Accessible travel ensures that people of all abilities, including those with disabilities or reduced mobility, can travel safely and comfortably. It involves providing facilities, services, and support that remove barriers and allow everyone to enjoy journeys independently or with assistance as needed. Planning for accessible travel helps ensure a smooth and stress-free experience.
2 How does P&O Ferries provide good accessibility facilities across their routes?
P&O Ferries offers a range of accessible travel facilities across all routes, including wheelchair-accessible cabins, accessible toilets, lifts, ramps, and specially adapted seating areas. Our newest vessels on the Dover to Calais route also feature bigger changing facilities, designed to better support passengers with additional needs and disabilities.
3 How does P&O Ferries support travellers with disabilities?
P&O Ferries supports travellers with disabilities through personalised assistance, including priority boarding, staff support throughout the journey, and the provision of accessible facilities. Passengers can notify us in advance to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place, making accessible travel planning simple and reliable. Special assistance is also available at our terminals, onboard, and during embarkation and disembarkation.
4 What is the Sunflower Scheme?
We are proud to be the first within the ferry sector to launch the Sunflower scheme. We are hoping this will encourage other providers to follow suit and help support their customers. We are passionate about our customer’s experience and providing inclusive transport, as we understand travel and unfamiliar surroundings can present challenges for some of our customers. Sunflower lanyards are now available on all of our routes.

If you wish to request a lanyard before travel, you can contact us by email on travelassistance@poferries.com. A lanyard will then be posted to you within 7 days.

Additionally you have the option of collecting a lanyard on your day of travel, this can be requested when you check in for your sailing or from our reception desk on board.
