TAKING YOUR PETS
No need to leave your furry friends behind – they can come on holiday too if you travel with us.
It costs £15 per pet each way to travel on the Dover to Calais route, with registered Guide and Hearing Dogs travelling free of charge.
Dogs, cats or ferrets are allowed on our ships with pet passports, as long as they meet all the EU requirements. The latest information on the pet passport scheme can be found on the DEFRA website.
As all pets must stay in the vehicle during the trip, we’ve put together a few tips on how to make the journey as comfortable and hassle-free as possible, for you and your pet.
- Passengers with pets need to check in at least one hour before departure.
- Sorry - foot passengers can’t travel with pets.
- Animals must remain in the vehicle at all times during the crossing.
Make sure your pet has been microchipped and vaccinated against rabies 21 days before you travel. Some countries also need your dog to have had tapeworm treatment, which is recorded in their pet passport. Check www.gov.co.uk
All dogs, cats and ferrets must have a pet passport (or third country official veterinary certificate) to enter or re-enter the UK. Your vet can give you a pet passport.
FEED AND WATER
Feed your pet at least a few hours before boarding ̶ do it later and they may get travel sick. Leave some water in the car in a non-spill bowl so they can stay hydrated. Always allow time for your pet to go to the toilet before boarding.
EXERCISE AND PLAY
Give your pet plenty of exercise before they travel - they’re likely to be less restless in the car. It’s also a good idea to leave them some toys to amuse them during the voyage.
COOL AND CALM
Leave your pet’s bedding in the car with them so they feel comfortable. Make sure your car is as cool as possible when you leave them, particular in the summer months.
If your pet isn’t used to long car journeys, take them in the car a few times before the crossing, so they get used to it. You could consider a night crossing, when they’re more used to sleeping.
